Home automation users need ti number and name every device in their homes.
Numbers are used by computers and names are used by computers and Names are used by users. Therefore, users keep a list of names and numbers representing all devices i ntheir homes to configure, monitor and control them locally and remotely.
After trying many alternatives, I concluded that the simplest and easiest way to keep a device list is the use of the text format because the file can be easily modified with any application in the computer.
Application services are used to run applescripts using the highlighted text as input.
These services are created using Automator and AppleScript Editor applications present in all the Apple computers with Mac OS X.
Once one or more devices numbers are hightlighted, the user can run the service "myHomeSwitch" by tapping with two fingers on the trackpad and selecting the service. The service is a script workflow that is smart enough to discover the type of switch and change the state.
If the highlitghted number is a light the service will ask the user to select UP or DOWN options.
The process can be simplified further by associatingthe myHomeService to a short key sequence like "cmd alt R".
(Enter the SDC addresses and names for your actuators in Notes, TextEditor, iCloud or Safari applications, highlight any number and tap two fingers on the trackpad)
